Best Guide to Increase Slow Hard Drive Productivity After Virus Removal

Delete Memory Dump Files

Minidumps contain stop code, parameters, loaded device driver list, current process and thread information, and kernel stack information for the thread that caused the system crash. Minidumps can provide some helpful information as to the cause of crashes, but may not be as useful as the more extensive options. This example illustrates how to enable the saving of crash dump on your system.

If you’ve downloaded a few games via Steam, for example, Windows can’t recognize how much space they take up. A file that’s backed up in OneDrive can be accessed by clicking it in File Explorer, just like a local file. Before you can access it, however, it must be missing .dll downloaded from OneDrive, which might be undesirable for those users with slow or unreliable Internet connections. You can save space, sure, but it might not be worth the inconvenience.

Mark Hachman / IDGApps typically consume gobs of gigabytes at a time, so look here first for unwanted old apps that consume space. The compressed file will have the same name as file you selected.

Delete Temporary Files In Windows

  • In most cases 5M-bytes will be more than sufficient.
  • This article explained why Windows Server dump files are considered important and how we can configure Windows Server 2012 R2 to save crash dump files.
  • If you restrict your debugging to memory dumps from the machine you are on, you will need relatively little hard-disk space for the symbol tables.
  • We saw the different memory Dumps (Automatic Memory Dump, Complete Memory Dump, Kernel Memory Dump, Small Memory Dump, No Memory Dump) and how to configure the dump’s settings.
  • More articles on Windows Server 2012 can be found in our Windows Server 2012 Section.

Right-click over the "This PC" icon on your desktop. Attach the archive with the dump file to your request. Right-click This PC and select Properties from the shortcut menu.

If the files are too large to attach to a ticket, contact Datto Technical Support for further assistance. The dump file options are in the Write debugging information section. On your Windows machine, click Start, right-click My Computer, and select Properties. Minidumps are 64 KB in size for x86 systems; 128 KB on x64 systems.

Save Files To A Different Drive

This example illustrates how to disable the saving of crash dumps on your system. In this scenario, the system crashes but no room is left in the savecore directory, and you want to save some critical system crash dump information. -nSpecifies that savecore should not be run when the system reboots. If system crash information is written to the swap device, and savecore is not enabled, the crash dump information is overwritten when the system begins to swap.
